Today is the final day of the year, and it’s also the beginning of something long overdue.

Adoption Evolution is officially launched: a new, Arizona-based nonprofit dedicated to making adoption-literate mental health and primary care part of our health-care system, not an afterthought.

We are off to a strong start. This inaugural year has already brought public-health recognition and early momentum, because the need is undeniable.

Millions of people are affected by adoption and early separation. Children grow into adults. Trauma does not expire.

Yet adoption-related PTSD, attachment trauma, and identity loss remain one of the last taboos in mental health: rarely screened for, rarely named, and almost never treated appropriately in primary care or behavioral health.

This is the phantom thread running through addiction, homelessness, suicidality, incarceration, and chronic mental-health struggles: present, powerful, and historically ignored.

Adoption Evolution exists to change that.

• Validate lived experience for adopted individuals and families
• Advocate for adoption to be recognized as a social determinant of health
• Create real systems change so people can finally get the care they need
